Artist Statement

I grew up watching home videos and running around with my Strawberry Shortcake 35mm film camera. This practice at a young age sparked a curiosity within me. It inspires me to document important relationships in my life. The memories recalled upon again and again. In my work, I explore the degradation of time and the revival of fleeting moments through media. My thesis work is comprised of portraits based on my family photographic archive, ranging from digital to film.

I base my curation of these images on composition, direction of gaze, contrast, atmospheric qualities, movement, and the emotions the images conjure. I transform these references into mixed media works. I intuitively experiment with mark, composition, and material to discover new relationships within each piece as I work simultaneously on multiple pieces at a time. This improvisational way of working as well as the large scale creates a physicality in my work that has existed since my childhood escapades with photography and my fascination in creating.
